The Story of Prophet Zakariya
An old man's quiet, desperate prayer — answered in a way he never expected.
Watching a Miracle Unfold Daily
As guardian of young Maryam in the temple, Zakariya kept noticing something strange — she had provisions he couldn't explain, food appearing that no one had brought her. Each time he asked, her answer pointed only to Allah. Watching this, something in his own faith deepened (Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:37).
A Prayer He Almost Didn't Dare Make
It stirred something in him — a longing, long buried, for a child of his own, even though he was old and his wife had never been able to conceive. If Allah could provide for Maryam this way, Zakariya reasoned, then perhaps his own impossible prayer wasn't so impossible after all.
Three Days of Silence as Proof
The answer came fast: glad tidings of a son, Yahya. Stunned, Zakariya asked for a sign, and was told he would be unable to speak to anyone for three days — not from illness, but as a living, breathing confirmation that the miracle was real (Surah Maryam 19:2-10).
Gratitude Without Words
For three days, unable to speak, Zakariya still found a way to worship — gesturing to his people to glorify Allah morning and evening, gratitude too full to wait for his voice to return.
Why This Story Still Matters
Zakariya's story tells anyone who has quietly given up hope on a prayer: it isn't too old, too impossible, or too late. Sometimes the answer is simply waiting for the moment it's meant to arrive.
