Takbir-e-Tahrima (Opening Allahu Akbar)
The first 'Allahu Akbar' that formally begins the prayer.
What Is Takbir-e-Tahrima?
Takbir-e-Tahrima is the opening declaration "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest) said while raising both hands to shoulder or ear level at the very start of Salah. It is called Tahrima ("that which makes forbidden") because once it is said, actions that are normally permissible — such as eating, talking, or looking around casually — become impermissible until the prayer ends.
How Is It Performed?
The worshipper stands facing the Qiblah, raises both hands, and says "Allahu Akbar" clearly, then folds the hands (according to most schools of thought) and begins the recitation of the prayer. This marks the formal entry into the state of Salah.
Its Significance
By opening the prayer with a declaration of Allah's greatness, the worshipper sets the intention and mindset for the entire Salah — turning away from worldly concerns and focusing entirely on standing before Allah.
