What Is Ruku?

Ruku is the bowing position performed after standing (Qiyam) in each rak'ah. The worshipper bends forward from the waist, placing the hands on the knees, keeping the back straight and level, forming roughly a right angle.

What Is Said in Ruku?

While in Ruku, it is recommended to say "Subhana Rabbiyal 'Azeem" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great) at least three times. This phrase glorifies Allah's greatness at the very moment the body is lowered in humility.

Rising From Ruku

After Ruku, the worshipper rises back to a standing position, saying "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears the one who praises Him), followed by "Rabbana wa lakal hamd" (Our Lord, and to You is the praise), before proceeding to Sujood.
